Mina Gerowin is a prolific and very well-respected hedge fund executive. She is well-known as a trailblazer for being one of the few women to enter the industry at the time she did. This helped to pave the way for other women to enter the field. While this made it hard for her to enter into the industry, she managed to not only enter the industry, but also became a huge success in it.

Gerowin was born in New York. She boasts an impressive collection of educational accomplishments including an A.B. in Political Economy that she obtained at Smith College where she graduated with honors. Mina Gerowin later obtained her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. From then on, Gerowin received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Afterward, Gerowin started practicing law in both Switzerland and New York. She then went on to work as an investment banker at Lazard Freres in their international mergers and acquisitions department. From then on, she formed her own investment and consulting company before eventually working at Paulson Europe LLP.

Mina Gerowin is most well-known for her role in Paulson & Co. after she joined the company in 2004. She helped to establish the hedge fund’s event fund in her time at the company. Gerowin is very well-known for her part in the company’s highly profitable bet against synthetic collateralized debt obligations during the financial crisis of 2007. Gerowin ultimately ended up retiring from the company in 2012.

After retiring from Paulson & Co., Gerowin became the non-executive director of Exor. Exor is an Italian holding company with holdings and assets amounting to around 24 billion dollars. Exor is most well-known for their holdings in both Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Ferrari. The company also has a major stake in CNH Industrial.

Currently, Gerowin is a non-executive director of CNH Industrial, a company that designs, produces, and sells various agricultural equipment as well as other commercial and construction related vehicles and equipment. The company also has a financing department for the purchase or leasing of their vehicles and equipment.

This impressive work history has given Mina Gerowin a name as a trailblazer in the industry. As one of the few women working in the financial industry at the time she entered she faced a lot of discrimination. When initially getting into the industry, she even had to experience co-workers at Lazard making backhanded remarks as to whether or not she belongs there.

In her time at Lazard, she was also forced to do the work that the men in the company didn’t want to do. Gerowin has stated that she felt it was obvious that many men in the company didn’t want to work with her and generally weren’t comfortable working alongside a woman. Despite all of this discrimination, Mina Gerowin thrived and grew to be a huge success in the industry. Thanks in part to Gerowin’s time at the company, the modern-day Lazard has changed and is now committed to fostering gender equality in its ranks.
