For many years, the Galveston, Texas, community has been holding an annual, fun-filled Mardi Gras celebration. In a recent article on the Click 2 Houston website, there is a helpful listing of some of this year’s major activities.

The 2019 Mardi Gras celebration in Galveston will take place from February 22 through March 5, and it is the 108th time the celebration has been held. Much of Galveston’s Mardi Gras celebration takes part in the city’s downtown section and the Seawall Boulevard beach area.

This year’s Mardi Gras event starts on Friday, February 22, at the historic Tremont House hotel with a brass band and an awards ceremony. This is followed by three large parades that will feature imaginatively decorated floats, live musical acts and beads being thrown to onlookers.

On Saturday, February 23 at 11:00 am, the Galveston Jolly Jester Jaunt 5K run or walk event will be held in downtown Galveston. Participants will then be granted access to the different Mardi Gras activities that will be going on in the island’s entertainment district.

On Seawall Boulevard at 12 noon on the 23rd, the Mystic Krewe of Aquarius will be celebrating its 25th anniversary with a massive parade and street pageant. This parade will feature a wealth of wonderful floats, as well as more than a dozen marching bands.

Other activities on Saturday afternoon include a fun golf cart parade and an art car parade. The day’s Mardi Gras activities flow into the evening with the Krewe of Gambrinus parade at 6:00 pm in the entertainment district.

Sunday February 24 brings the Fiesta Gras parade to Galveston’s entertainment district. This event brings all sorts of costumed musicians, dancers and more to the streets of the downtown district

Three different parades, including a fire truck parade, will be held in the entertainment district during the evening on Friday, March 1.

Five parades and processionals, including the festival’s largest, are on the schedule for Saturday, March 2 at the Galveston Mardi Gras.

Family Gras will be held on Sunday, March 3 in the entertainment district. The Shriners Hospital for Children and Sunshine Kids Parade, and the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux costumed pet parade are popular highlights.
