It has been a strange 2018 season so far for the Dallas Cowboys. They have had some very good performances through the first 10 games of the season. They have also had games where QB Dak Prescott has underwhelmed and failed on several critical drives to lead his team into the end zone. Therefore, the team is currently trailing the Washington Redskins in the NFC East division. Many Cowboys fans have started to panic and the confidence in the team is low. However, the Redskins recently lost their QB Alex Smith for the rest of the year due to a broken leg. They will now be forced to use Colt McCoy as their starting QB. The injury to Smith has created a very good opportunity for the Cowboys to overtake the Redskins and win the division.

Cowboys general manager and owner Jerry Jones believes that his team has the talent to make the playoffs. However, he admits that they need to play much better than they have so far if that is going to happen. He feels that his team has been hurt by several injuries to their offensive line which they have not been able to compensate for. This has made it harder for the team to adequately protect Dak Prescott in critical situations. The offensive line has given up quite a few sacks this year.

There are a couple of other reason why the Cowboys are currently in good shape to win their division and secure a playoff spot. The New York Giants are having their second straight terrible year. They went 3-13 last year and currently sit in last place with a 3-7 record. The season for the Giants is already over and they have no hope of making the playoffs. This means they are not a threat to the Cowboys chances of winning the division.

The other bit of good news for the Cowboys is that the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles have played poorly and are only 4-6 so far this season. The Eagles were recently blown out and embarrassed by the New Orleans Saints at the Superdome. It looks like the Redskins are the only team the Cowboys need to worry about right now. There is also the possibility that the Cowboys could make the playoffs by winning a wild card if they are not able to win their division. However, winning the division is their best shot.
