Two teams that are expected to be in the playoffs when all is said and done hooked up in an exciting game at Minute Maid Park. The Houston Astros barely edged out the Chicago Cubs by a score of 6-5. There are some people in the national media who believe that the games between these two teams could be a preview of the World Series if they are both able to stay healthy. The star of the game was the starting pitcher for the Astros, Gerrit Cole. He overpowered the Cubs and struck out 12 in only six innings of work. He only gave up three hits and a pair of earned runs. Cole picked up his fifth win of the year to go against five defeats.

Cole Hamels got the start for the Cubs and was not effective at all. He was banged around for seven hits and six earned runs. He only lasted four innings. He was also wild and walked four. His record is now 4-1 after suffering his first defeat of the season. The Cubs are involved in a very tight race in the National League Central division. The Milwaukee Brewers are considered to be their biggest competition for the division title. However, the St. Louis Cardinals might have something to say about that before all is said and done.

The Astros have been running away with the American League West division. None of the other teams in that division have anywhere near the talent that Houston does. The Oakland A’s have been on a surge recently. However, they simply do not have the players that are going to be able to compete with Houston on a daily basis. The Los Angeles Angels and the Seattle Mariners are in a rebuilding mode. They will finish the season well below the .500 mark.

The Houston Astros remain without two of their best players who make their offense click. Jose Altuve and George Springer were both out of the lineup once again. George Springer has been the best player in the American League for the first two months of the season. Altuve has not played a lot so far in 2019. However, he is a former most valuable player who has won three batting titles. Therefore, it is always a big deal with he is hurt and out of the lineup. Houston has many hitters who can pick up the slack.
